Children & Youth

Through our Annual Golf Tournament we sponsor elementary schools in the South Houston

community and give school awards to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the

area. We sponsor boys to Boys State, conduct Oratorical Contests, and award annual scholarships

to Post members and their dependents.

Scholarship Information

The 2018 American Legion South Houston Post 490 Annual Scholarship Program Application

 

In order to assist with the costs of continuing education, South Houston American Legion Post 490 is offering scholarships to eligible individuals that meet the following criteria: 1) The applicant must be a member of South Houston American Legion Post or directly related to a current member in good standing. 2) The applicant must be able to provide evidence of current enrollment or acceptance in an institute of higher education (College or Technical School) 3) The applicant must provide a fully filled out official application (this form) and submit with resume and essay (as described in the application), to South Houston American Legion Post 490 postmarked or delivered by April 15. Attention: Americanism or Scholarship Committee. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The 2017 American Legion Auxiliary Unit 490 Scholarship Program

1. Applicant must be a member of the American Legion Post 490, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 490, Legion Riders Unit 490, Sons of the Legion Unit 490 or directly related to a current member in good standing. 2. Applicant must be: a. A high school senior just beginning his/her college education/technical school b. A current college student continuing his/her college education/technical school; or c. A Non-traditional student who is just beginning his/her education at a later point in life. 3. Applicant or applicant’s sponsor must be a paid member of the Unit 490 or any of its sub groups for at least one (1) year prior to submission of the scholarship application. 8. Applicant must mail the completed application packet to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 490 ON OR BEFORE APRIL 20th. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The American Legion Auxiliary State Girls Scholarship Program

https://www.alatexas.org/programs-scholarships/scholarships Gift Scholarships of $500 each will be given, based on contributions received from Units. Final determination shall be vested in the Education Chairman and her Committee. Recipients will be announced at the annual State Convention and checks will be mailed to the college or university the applicant will be attending. Additional applications and information may be obtained from the American Legion Auxiliary Unit in the community where the applicant resides. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
